FTSE 100 rises as miners, oil stocks and Sainsbury’s gain

0910 GMT – The FTSE 100 index rises 0.6%, or 46 points to 7,537, as miners and oil stocks advance after positive trade in Asia and higher crude prices. BHP, Antofagasta, Glencore, BP, Shell and Rio Tinto were among the biggest gains after mainland China, Hong Kong and Japan markets all closed firmly in positive territory. The price of a barrel of Brent crude rose 0.4% to $ 84.08. Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s gained more than 1% after the UK grocer said third-quarter comparable sales, including fuel, fell, but improved its market expectations for the full year in terms of lower costs, market share growth and higher Christmas grocery volumes.
